Illustrating a book cover - Dinosaur Pie
I have just sent off the cover rough for the third book in the Dinosaur series of books from the brilliant Jen Wallace ( @jenwallacecreates )and I am sure this is my favourite cover yet!
I cannot share it yet but I was looking back and thought I would share the process for the first book.
I suggested a few directions in the first round and we narrowed it down to a few favourites .
We chose the direction of the gang running across cityscape with a giant pie/moon behind them.
I then spent far too long playing with colour and a few different painting styles. The publisher https://www.littleisland.ie/ (@littleislandbks ) wisely suggested I keep it simple.
I did a few mockups to make sure that the final design would be readable and stand out on a book shelf.
Then I extended the illustration to wrap around to the back cover.
At this point it goes to the designer to make it ready to print and sell.
